UC jobs are being outsourced
An article in Computerworld magazine by Patrick Thibodeau, confirms what we have been hearing: UCSF is outsourcing IT jobs. The service agreement that UC signed with HCL to outsource 17% of UCSF’s IT staff, can be leveraged by any campus at UC.
49 career employees have already received layoff notices, plus contract employees and vendor contractors. And we believe that this is just the beginning. If we don’t take action before these layoffs start, this could be the tip of the iceberg, and who knows what department is next to sell off our livelihoods?
UPTE is prepared to take action, starting with the petition below. There will be more action items to come, but what we need to know today is: Are you willing to help stop the outsourcing before it starts?
Take action: Tell Napolitano to stop outsourcing UC jobs!
Dear President Napolitano,
The undersigned University of California stakeholders — faculty, staff, students, and families — oppose the outsourcing of good jobs performed by dedicated and capable staff at UC San Francisco and potentially at other campuses. As a public institution, UC should not be in the business of using legal loopholes and private firms to undermine UC employment. Moreover, we are concerned for the privacy and safety of patients and the quality of research and academic excellence jeopardized by this move. Put the missions of the University first and halt this process immediately.
